Year of the Hangman- Out of the Box Question

Currently, we are reading a historical fiction novel called, "The Year of the Hangman". I have read chapters 1-5 and I have been asked to think about a time when I had to start at a new school, what was the one thing that scared me the most about starting at a new school, and why.

I moved schools seventh grade year and I was terrified. It was going to be middle school and it was full of teachers and students that I didn't know. I was scared to be the only kid that had moved from another school, which I wasn't, and that I was going to be a loner because I knew no one and I thought that I wouldn't make any friends. For instance, on the first day of school I got so scared to walk into my classroom that I sat in the bathroom for a while until I thought I could actually enter the room. When I entered the room was pretty empty. I looked around and found a group of girls with an empty seat at their table and I asked if I could sit there. They said sure but I was still really terrified, I didn't say another word for the rest of the day.

I don't know why I was so scared because Lincoln has a lot of nice people and a lot of people who will give you the chance to be their friend. I have several friends now and I had a great year last year. I can see why Creighton goes to hang out in pubs a lot because maybe he feels like he doesn't have a chance with people and that he will be moving again soon so he doesn't really need to try.

Innovation Hour

Today Sadie and I joined Jackson to sell Conference T-shirts for our football team. I liked how we discussed what our opportunities were and it seemed very serious. I learned that putting a lot of designs on a shirt raises the cost significantly. I'm wondering if there is a chance we could could continue a project after we finish our project these few months. I noticed that Jackson is very focused and knows what he wants to do while Sadie is creative and likes to give ideas. It's very fun to work with my friends and get their ideas together to make something awesome. I'm wondering what it will take to sell these t-shirts and how many we will sell. It would be great if we sold a lot and made a good profit so we can donate the money.

The Best and Worst Times

America's victory chance was small because there lack of supplies, their poorly trained soldiers, and it was a small army. But they were fighting on their homes oil, they were fighting for a cause, they had the leadership of Washington and others, and they had fine marksmen. The British had the advantage of many more soldiers, they were the best trained army in the world,  they had the strongest navy in the world, and they had more supplies. Some reasons they lost the war were that they were fighting far from home, it was hard to get supplies to them, and the soldiers were less committed to victory.

Wall of Peace

In honor of Veterans Day, our class created a wall of peace. It is important to keep honoring our veterans because they didn't just die for us to forget about them and not to think of our freedom. Veterans died for us. They died and fought so we can have our freedom. They risked their lives and lost it. They had dreams just like we do. Maybe they wanted a dog, a family, or maybe a long life but they didn't get that. We need to remember these soldiers because it's the least we can do to honor them. We can honor our veterans and soldiers still fighting in the wars for us.

Fight for Freedom

In America, in 1763, was very important for the new colonies. this was because the French and Indian War had ended and England was ready for the colonists to pay them back for the war. The colonists were outrage and they were sick of England trying to govern them when they have had to govern themselves lately. But looking at the colonies itself, improvements were being made. Roads connecting cities were improved, trade among the colonies was growing rapidly, and colonists were shaping their own way of life without England.

The English Americans wanted their independence because they wanted freedom from England and they weren't only fighting for independence but something greater. Not everyone in America wanted freedom like a royal governor name William Franklin, he felt that he must remain loyal to the king and believed that the patriot leaders would drag the colonies into a civil war. His father, Benjamin Franklin, did believe that America should break away because the British society was corrupt. The debate over whether America should be independent or not sometimes divided families.

The decision made to become independent was made throughout the years of 1770-1775. Throughout these years were many rebellions. One was the Boston Massacre, the conflict between the colonists and the English turned deadly when the colonists were throwing snowballs full of glass, sticks, and rocks at the British; the British returned with a fire killing 5 men. Then another rebellion called The Boston Tea Party was when the British taxed the colonists' favorite drink, tea, and the colonists boarded a ship and dumped all the tea into the Boston harbor. Also one of another the other, less known, rebellions was the Stamp Act where the English government passed the Stamp Act and the colonist refused to buy English goods by boycotting them.

The war began with a shot heard 'round the world. This shot was fired buy an unknown side, no one really knows who fired the first shot if it was the British, the Lexington militia, or a bystander. It all started with about 70 militia men and close to 1,000 British soldiers. A British officer ordered the men to drop their weapons, then a shot was fired and the British fired back killing eight men and wounding ten. Young farm boys and young men joined the militia coming from cities around the area, like Boston and Concord, trying to protect the weapons in Concord and Boston. These men were not skilled and some had never even shot a person before but they ended up winning the war.

End of the Year; Last Post Until Next Year!

This year has been the best. I couldn't of asked for anything greater than what I have had. I've experienced the drama, the laughs, the sports, the academics, the people, and the teachers/staff members of Lincoln Junior High. Let me be honest and tell you that on my first day I honestly thought I was going to be stuck with the weird kids. Now that I look back, I don't see why that was such a bad thing. My bestest friends are considered the "weird kids" just because they are in band or they are smart or they have different interests than everyone. I learned this year that if you want to feel comfortable in school without being judged or left behind or the experiencing the drama, you need to be yourself and fit in with the people who are somewhat similar. I found my true friends not too long ago and I'm pretty mad that we have only had a short time together. My friends are the ones who are not afraid of getting up and being themselves even though people may not like them. They are the band kids, the geeks, the weirdos, the ones who have some issues but we all find them hilarious because we find the best out of anything bad about them. You've probably heard this before that being true to yourself is important and maybe you haven't thought much about it, it's the truth though and don't let anyone stop you from being yourself.

Genius Hour Reflective Essay

In genius hour we spent our Mondays either making websites, researching, making posters anything we wanted to do that will help us learn. My genius hour,”Movie Reviews for You”, is where I can watch movies and share my opinions (because I am very opinionated) with others. I really enjoy watching movies and I do a lot of movie watching in my free time so I said why not change my genius hour from one that was boring and I found zero interest in and it wasn’t making any progress to one I actually enjoy. The link to my website is .

I initially wanted to just be done with genius hour because I didn’t understand the point of it. That is also when I had an awful idea for the project. Now I want to accomplish many things like making people happy,  watch more movies and I have a better reason to do it, and I want to see this project going beyond me just using the one day a week to do this and more like a few times or many times a week I work on it. My vision for this project is for it to be a resources people use to find nice reviews that are helpful.

I liked how we used this time to learn of our own standards, it gets boring having to do what teachers want us to do and learn what they need us to learn so the genius hour was a great way to express our own feelings and interests. I noticed myself wanting attention for my genius hour by other people not in just this school or in my community but from others all over the world. I can give them my opinion on everything I enjoyed or disliked about the movie and who I would recommend the movie for. I don’t spoil any parts of the movie with my reviews, so that’s what I think makes me a good critic.

I wonder if my website got so big and if people everywhere used it to find movie reviews. That would just be the most exceptional place for my website to be at. I want to carry on this genius hour until it gets to that point. What if it doesn’t? I will work even harder, tweet more everyday, and I won’t stop until I’m there. This genius hour really makes me want to keep trying and it is really starting to help me form a trait for my life and that is determination.

How might of my project of turned out if I didn’t switch projects? I think that I would still be unsatisfied by my accomplishments because I felt like no one knew I was even there and I was ready to help. I really wanted my “Teaching Teacher’s Fun” to work out because I would of enjoyed to help teachers. I did come across that I had a degree but I didn’t. I was there to help but no one came, so I already feel more successful and more accomplished with my project on writing reviews for movies.

I learned more about making websites and how to attract more viewers. Social media has really helped this world out because without we wouldn’t have many show ups to events. For example: get togethers at libraries, art shows, and conventions. I used social media to get more viewers on my website and get ideas on movies to review. I also learned that if you’re unsatisfied with something you need to find help or do something to help yourself.  I made a decision with the help with Mrs. Neidlinger that I needed to find something else to do and I’m very appreciative about that because I was feeling very worried about the outcome.

Is it possible to find a way to attract more audience? I’m wondering this because I really do want my project to keep going on for awhile and it really gives me something to do because I enjoy movies and there is no better way to show your opinion other than sharing it with others on a review website! What would it take to get there? I think it would take a lot of tweeting and “social mediaing” because that’s how I feel the word gets around.

What could happen if too many request come in? I could have my friends help with the orders and they would be happy to help because I would give them credit. Does it matter that I only do my genius hour once a week? Yes, because if I didn’t do it more often then I would be behind and I wouldn’t be able to be as successful with it as I would like to. To get what you want you have to work hard at it and if you don’t do anything your project or dream will die.

How is my project like other movie review blogs/websites? I give the viewers a summary of the movie, a rating of stars, who I recommend it to,  my opinion, and a trailer. Is it right to copy someone elses summary? Yes if you give the credit. I get my summaries from IMDb because they give very good summaries that I wouldn’t be able to do because sometime I spoil movies for people but I don’t when I give my opinions about the movie.

My finish project has changed so much from the start. For one, the entire project changed! I originally had the idea that giving my opinions and thoughts to teachers was a good idea to improve their teaching. Well it wasn’t, it honestly didn’t turn out to well I came across like I actually knew what I was doing and I have a degree in teaching, which I don’t. My final product, which definitely isn’t final, is a website created for people who want reviews for movie and the reviews include: a summary of the movie, a rating of stars, who I recommend it to,  my opinion, and a trailer.
I think I accomplished many things. I made a website, twitter, email, and I even accomplished the genius hour. I accomplished the genius hour because I feel accomplished myself. I still don’t feel accomplished because I want this to go on until I am older. My project will impact others because it is a new resources for others to get reviews from an honest person with an optimistic, but real, point of view.

Is my favorite thing to do the reason for my genius hour? Yes it is. I think this should be the reason for everyone’s genius hour project because it’s a way to really put yourself into the project and get a good outcome. If you put yourself into it then you're more than likely to be proud of your work and be happy with it. I learned this when I saw my first project failing and I dreaded genius hour because it wasn’t really something I was into. I think this applies to almost anything you do in life; Do what interests you to make the most out of living.

Moving Weekend

Well I moved to a new house this weekend. And let me tell you, it was one of the most aggravating, frustrating, laborious, tiring things I've done. It all started at 6 a.m. on Saturday, and I bet half of you that you got to sleep in. I went to my Academic Superbowl competition and that was very frustrating because my subject didn't place at all and we spent many hours studying! Oh well. I got back around 1 and holy shmoley was I tired! No breaks for me I went straight to moving and packing and cleaning! I lifted so many heavy objects I bet I can bench 200 pounds now (not really). It took at least 8 hours just to get some of the things to the new house. Because of this experience I now hate moving and I learned I have too much stuff. It took an extra 5 hours just to organize my room and clean. Now today I am so tired but I am very happy to be in my new house. Now I have to ride a new bus, isn't that just great? Have you ever moved? Did you enjoy the experience?

New Genius Hour!

Well I was recently told (and I noticed) that my original genius hour wasn't making a lot of progress. I noticed this over course and if you read my genius our reflections you can see that I have been uncertain about my genius hour project about teaching teachers. I have picked a new genius hour project, a few weeks before it's due, where I made a website to give movie reviews because I enjoy watching movies. The website is . I am super excited about getting this started! Please please PLEASE check it out just for a second and email or comment a movie you would like me to do a review on! Do you have a genius hour project you do?

My blogging challenge topic this week is about Pompeii.

The city of Pompeii was an ancient Roman town-city near modern Naples. Pompeii was mostly destroyed and buried 13 to 20 ft of ash eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
By the time of its destruction, 160 years later, its population was probably approximately 20,000, and the city had a complex water system, an amphitheater, gymnasium and a port. Evidence for the destruction originally came from a surviving letter by Pliny the Younger, who saw the eruption from a distance and described the death of his uncle Pliny the Elder, an admiral of the Roman fleet, who tried to rescue citizens. The site was lost for about 1,500 years until its initial rediscovery in 1599 and broader rediscovery almost 150 years later. The objects that lay beneath the city have been well preserved for centuries because of the lack of air and moisture. These artifacts provide an extraordinarily detailed insight into the life of a city. During the excavation, plaster was used to fill in the voids between the ash layers that once held human bodies. This allowed one to see the exact position the person was in when he or she died. Pompeii has been a tourist destination for over 250 years. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Italy, with approximately 2.5 million visitors every year.

Have you seen the movie "Divergent"? If you haven't I will personally buy you a ticket, drive you to your nearest movie theater, get you candy, and sit in the theater with you. Like this movie cannot even compare to the "Hunger Games", and I thought that movie was the bomb dot com. I didn't read the book, I am kicking myself still because I didn't, and I heard that was 100x better than the Hunger Games book!

Well the movie is about (according to the summary on the website), " A thrilling action-adventure film is set in a world where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Tris Prior is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy by a faction leader to destroy all Divergents, Tris must learn to trust in the mysterious Four and together they must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late." If that doesn't sound interesting enough just check out the cast.

The blog site has many links like cast, the movie summary, make-up, opinions from fans, behind the scenes, and awards/news. The blog was created by Paulina and Bill. The last update was today and it was about their wins at the MTV Awards. This blog is similar to mine because I also have a cast list, an opinion about the movie, and I also have a summary for mine.  In conclusion, my blog is similar to a blog site because of the cast, my opinions, and a summary of the movie.

Shailene Woodley- Oh my goodness, she is a great actress. I predict she will be the next Jennifer Lawrence!

Theo James- Then here comes the awesome guy that totally beats up everyone and comes with a ton of surprises. (He's also not to hard on the eyes)

What's in a Picture? (Challenge 3)

My picture and my story starter was, When I open my eyes...
Who am I?

When I opened my eyes, I was in a stranger’s car. It was rainy and gray outside, it smelled like pine trees because of the air freshener, and there was a strange woman sitting in the front talking on her cell phone. I didn’t know where I was or why I was there, but all I could remember was myself at my grandfathers funeral. I was walking towards the bathroom when I heard someone crying, I went to go check on them and I was knocked out.

What should I do? I asked myself frequently, Should I pretend I am still asleep or try to catch a car passing by?

“Yeah, yeah,” I heard the woman say into her cellphone,”We’ve got him, it took a while to get him out of the funeral and into the car, but he’s sleeping now.”

Just as she said that she adjusts the mirror to look at me I quickly close my eyes. “Nevermind he’s awake.” I hear her say.

How did she know that? I asked myself with my eyes still closed.

She hangs up her cell phone with one push of a button and says to me, “Hey Sam, how are you feeling?”

“Fine, just my head hurts,” Why am I talking to her and how does she know my name? “So, where am I? And how do you know me? Why am I here?”

“I can’t tell you much, only that we are almost to our destination. And don’t worry, no one will come looking for you and they won’t miss you.”

It was true, all I had was my grandfather and he just died the same way my parents had. I looked out the window to find answers in the trees but they didn’t give me one. All of a sudden I see huge skyscrapers, I then realize that we are in the “Big Apple”, NYC, or New York City. “What are we doing in New York?” I ask.

“This is where you belong and where you will start training.” She said this without emotion in her voice I started to question if she was a real human or not.

“Training? Training for what?”

“You will find out when we get there. In the meantime, have a Doritos Locos Taco.”

I love these things so I took a huge bite and realized there was something really wrong with this taco. I began to spit out words,”Why does this taco….” I passed out again in the backseat with getting only one bite of my taco.

I felt I was being dragged, because I was, into a hole in the ground. When I woke up I was in in a dark lab and it smelt like I was in a sewer. I could see that I was surrounded by scientists and doctors, I could tell they were scientists and doctors because of their lab coats. What they wanted with me I had no idea.

“Why am I here? What did that women mean by training? Who are you? What just happened?” I ask in a frenzy.

A short bald man in a lab coat quietly walks up and says, “Sam, you are the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.”

I just started laughing. It was such a ridiculous sentence said in such a serious way. Ninja Turtles aren’t real, they are just a story out of a comic book. Plus, last time I checked I look nothing like a turtle and I have no clue on how to do karate or kung fu. “What do you mean by Ninja Turtle?” I asked with tears in my eyes from laughing so hard.

“Well Sam, you qualify to be tested on to become a turtle and to train with the others to master karate and kung fu.” said the bald scientist.

“I qualify? How are you supposed to qualify for these things? And is this even legal, I mean we are in a sewer and I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to kidnap someone.”

“To qualify you must have be an orphan and you have turtle in your blood Sam, your grandfather was the original Ninja Turtle but retired and was changed back to human. This is legal and we are sorry about the transportation, we didn’t think it out too much and we probably couldn’t of persuaded you at your grandfather’s funeral. All we ask is that you help us by joining to help save New York from the evil mole people.”

I have only read a few stories about the Ninja Turtles and seen a few of the T.V. shows, but my own grandfather didn’t even tell me he was apart of this. “Where do I sign up?” I ask without a worry in my voice, but the truth was I was really nervous and worried.

It was a painful experience. Many men and women scientists and doctors surrounded me, watching to see if this experiment would work on me. I felt my skin tighten and my neck getting longer, I looked down to see my hands and arms were turning green. I blank out for a moment and thats when I hear the gasps. I can’t see a thing and only hear the scientists talking but they are whispering so quietly and fast I can’t make out anything they are saying. I try to force myself up and I try opening my eyes when I hear a soft voice telling me that I can relax.

I wake up my skin is scaly and tight, I’m extremely thirsty, and there is a huge shell on my back! I try to get up but the weight on my back that has flipped me over is unbearable. I decided to scream for help because obviously I wouldn’t be able to get myself. I see a younger boy, younger than me, rush in.
“I’m so sorry Mr. Smith, I got here as fast as I could. What do you need?” the boy asks while he is running out of breath.

“I just need help up. This shell is ridiculously huge and I am so thirsty. What’s your name?

As the boys was helping me up he tells me, “My names Tyrone, I was brought here with my scientist dad and I was assigned to help you in your first few days.” he said as he sat me up. “I’ll go get you some water.”

“Before you leave Tyrone, I just wanted to let you know that you can call me Sam.” I said as he was about to pass out the door.

“Ok I’ll be right back, Sam.”

My training was extremely hard but as if I were in a dream I was a natural at it but still I wasn’t very good. Tyrone and John, who I had just met and he was my trainer, spent many hours with me practicing my kung fu or karate in the dark sewers of New York. Being kicked and punched so many times to strengthen me, learning how to use nun-chucks (which is AWESOME by the way), and practicing my skills. After many months I was ready.

I headed out in disguise, which was a salmon colored mask, I located the area where the mole people were hiding. I waited outside, patiently and quietly. I finally decide I am ready after the two hours of waiting, I do my ninja roll inside and I see two guards guarding a doorway. I take a deep breath and pull out my nun-chucks, I scream with a crazy indian-turtle call and use my nun-chuck skills to take them down, they didn’t see that coming for them.

I walk in through the door nonchalantly like I belong there. I was told by John that there weren’t that many moles in the operation but they were very dangerous. I hide behind the door and look in, I see no one so I sneak in through the door and I am very aware and alert of my surroundings. I look into a window and see at least twenty moles inside having a meeting, I try to listen in and I hear, “I’m thinking we will become more powerful if we have at least 200 more moles so that we can take over the world!” I see that came from a very large mole, he looks like the leader.

I take a fog bomb out of my tool belt and throw it in, “It’s time” I say to myself before I ran in and started using my moves on everyone. Kicks, punches, and nun-chucks were flying everywhere. Chairs, tables, and other moles were also my weapons to take down everyone. After a long fight there was one left, he was scrawny but fast. I leaped up in the air, took out my turtle-rang, and chucked it at him. It was a miss or hit, but my luck was strong that day because it hit him square in the head.

I decided I would let the police take over after this. I was hungry, tired, and in need of a milkshake. I run across the tops of the building in the heart of New York City and leap for sign to sign. I feel like i am on top of the world for a minute, I sit on top of a ledge looking out onto the beautiful city lights. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, breathing in the cold autumn air, when I open my eyes I am back at my grandfather’s funeral.

Write Sideways Blogging Challenge

For this blogging challenge we have a choice between a list of questions. My three questions I chose were 1.How you came up with the name for your first pet, 2.  That time you fell off your bicycle, and 20. How other people would describe you.

Well I have a dog named Martini. She is an Australian Shepherd. Yes I know a weird name for a dog but that was not we named her. Martini is a show dog so we got her from a breeder, so it wasn't really our choice on her name. It is a good name for her though because it is now a joke between the family and our friends.

The time I fell off my bike... That has been numerous time because I rode my bike to school for about 2-3 years. But one time I was riding away from these neighbor kids trying to catch me because I killed a worm, I know right they are crazy. Anyways I was turning and slipped on some gravel and I got jabbed by my handle bar in my stomach and got these really bad scrapes, and my bike was totally demolished! It hurt really bad actually, I was in like fourth grade and it sucked.

If people were to describe me they would describe me as crazy, funny, and smart. I am a crazy person that likes to have fun and laugh, you can ask anyone that knows me and they definitely will agree. I am funny, or as I am told, I make a lot of jokes that apparently are really good because people end up crying because they are laughing so hard. I think the funniest part is that sometimes I don't even intend it, which is the best way to be funny. I am smart, I get really good grades and usually am the person to answer the questions in class, but that's not the only way of being smart. another way is if you give good advice and if you can make good decisions.

Argumentative Essay

9.  Is Human Activity a Substantial Cause of Global Climate Change?

The US National Academies of Science, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and many others, say that greenhouse gas levels are rising due to human activities such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation which are causing significant climate changes including global warming, loss of sea ice, glacier retreat, more intense heat waves, stronger hurricanes, and more droughts.

(You can read my essay in the writing tab above)

I liked writing my opinion about this topic and having to be able to share it with others. I wonder if I had more evidence would it bring the essay together more, I do feel that I had enough though. How might my essay be written if I were on the opposing view of global climate change?

House of Dark Shadows Reflection

I read House of Dark Shadows by Robert Liparulo. Throughout the book what has really inspired me is that the family is really the type of family that works together, the siblings get along, and everyone is there to help each other. There were a few confusing parts of the book, I didn't really understand how you got transported to another realm; Was it because of the garments they were wearing or something else? What I liked about the book was that it was very adventurous and detailed, When someone would teleport somewhere the author would write about what the scene looked like and he used very descriptive words. I am still wondering what happened to the mom and where the beast took her! I would definitely recommend this book to others, it has all the components that a reader really looks for, excitement, action, and details. When we finished the our books we had a twitter chat, I really liked this chat because it was nice to see what others were reading and why they chose that book, and really you also got to learn more about them.

Am I a Genius?

No, I am not a genius. Genius' are like Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton, and Mozart.

This is because they learn faster and they can think fast and better, they also have to work hard for what they want. I am a smart person but nothing compared to just one of these genius', Mozart started composing his amazing music at five! I can't even compete with a five year old! You become a genius by showing that you are better and smarter than other people, but it doesn't matter if you become one at five or eighty! So anyone can become a genius.

If I were to become a genius in a particular area or skill I would choose socials, like people. I am very good with people so I have a head start. But I know it would take me awhile to get there. For an example some people who are genius' in that area are like, Martin Luther King Jr. or Nelson Mandela. They both are inspirational and know how to touch people. I think you are definitely born with it, but what takes you time is finding that you are good at that particular thing.

If I wanted to become a genius like, Martin Luther King Jr. or Nelson Mandela I will have to start showing my skills. Martin Luther King Jr. started a protest and showed not only America but also the rest of the world that something needed to change. Isaac Newton had some of his physics laws published and since then he was considered a genius, so I need to do something that won't just effect me, the community, the state, the nation, but the world! So I need to work hard and get on it.
